Crystal Lake’s Bullhead Days Set for July 3-5 With Fireworks, Parade and Street Dance

CRYSTAL LAKE, Iowa — Crystal Lake will celebrate Independence Day weekend with its annual Bullhead Days festival July 3-5, featuring three days of food, music, family activities and fireworks in the North Iowa community.

The festival, a longtime Fourth of July tradition in Crystal Lake, opens Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. Organizers are urging residents and visitors to bring lawn chairs and join the celebration.

The weekend kicks off Friday with a street dance featuring Dora’s Tacos and music from DJ Randy Formanek from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday is the busiest day of the festival. A fireworks breakfast and bake sale will be held at the fire station from 8 to 11 a.m. Visitors can also check out remote-control cars in the fire station parking lot from 9 to 11 a.m.

Sign-ups for a horseshoe tournament begin at noon at the City Park shelter house, with play starting at 12:30 p.m. A foam party follows at the City Park basketball court from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The town’s parade steps off at 5 p.m., with entries lining up at the Kluver Community Center starting at 4:30 p.m. A pedal pull sponsored by WCTA begins at 6 p.m. at the basketball court, followed by a medallion hunt starting at the fire station at 7 p.m., sponsored by Lifetime Nut Covers.

Fireworks will light up the sky at 10 p.m. to close out Saturday’s events. Food trucks will be stationed around town throughout the weekend.

The festival concludes Sunday with a car show on Main Street from 1 to 4 p.m.

Organizers describe Bullhead Days as a celebration of food, fun, family and community, and say this year’s schedule continues that tradition for the Fourth of July holiday.
