Heat Presents Problems for Those Outdoors

Temperatures will be very high throughout the week and may pose issues for those who work outdoors. Heat indexes may reach 107 in some locations which may cause heat stress or heat stroke. Hancock and Winnebago County Emergency Manager Andy Buffington says there are things we should watch for.
Fluids during this time are very important and only certain types are beneficial during this heat wave.
One of the conditions people should watch for is either heat stroke or heat stress which can become fatal if not treated or prevented.
Buffington also advises those who are outdoors to be vigilant.
While cooling down is important, taking a cold shower might be an additional hazard.
Exercising outdoors should be avoided or limited to the early morning with you continually monitoring how you are feeling.
If you or someone you know is suffering from heat stroke, you should dial 911 immediately.
