2026 Winter Dance Party Returns to Clear Lake with Rock ’n’ Roll Legends

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — One of North Iowa’s most iconic music traditions returns later this month as the 2026 Winter Dance Party takes over the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake from Thursday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Jan. 31, bringing three nights of classic rock ’n’ roll and doo-wop to the lakeside community.

The annual event celebrates the legacy of early rock music at the famed venue where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper last performed in 1959. This year’s lineup features a mix of legendary performers and fan favorites spanning multiple generations.

The weekend kicks off Thursday, Jan. 29, with performances by Jay & The Americans, Austin Allsup, and Richie Lee & The Fabulous 50s.

Music continues Friday, Jan. 30, with The Killer Vees featuring Chris Montez and Brian Hyland, along with The Drifters, The Whitesidewalls, and The Holy Rocka Rollaz. Friday night will also include the world premiere of “Not Fade Away: The Immersive Surf Ballroom Experience,” offering fans a new way to experience the venue’s storied history.

The event wraps up Saturday, Jan. 31, featuring Slim Jim Phantom, Linda Gail Lewis, Billy F. Gibbons and the BFGs, Midnight Cowgirls featuring Albert Lee, and Danny B. Harvey & Annie Marie Lewis.

In addition to the main concert nights, bonus events are scheduled following the weekend. Sunday, Feb. 1 will feature 1959 WDP Memories, followed by John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party® on Monday, Feb. 2.

Three-day passes for Thursday through Saturday are available for $159, with individual event tickets also offered. Tickets and additional event information can be found at surfballroom.com.

The Surf Ballroom is located at 460 North Shore Drive in Clear Lake and continues to serve as a centerpiece of North Iowa’s music and cultural heritage.
