Dangerous Cold Expected Across Iowa Early Monday

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowans should prepare for dangerously cold conditions late Sunday night into Monday morning as a Cold Weather Advisory goes into effect statewide.
The National Weather Service has issued the advisory from midnight Sunday night through 9 a.m. Monday, warning of wind chills ranging from -15 to -30 degrees. The coldest conditions are expected during the Monday morning commute, creating potentially hazardous conditions for anyone traveling or spending time outdoors.
Low temperatures are forecast to fall between -5 and -15 degrees, with strong winds making it feel significantly colder. At these levels, frostbite can develop on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Officials urge residents to take precautions, including limiting time outdoors, wearing multiple layers, hats, and gloves, and ensuring all exposed skin is covered. Drivers are encouraged to keep jumper cables and an emergency kit in their vehicles in case of trouble.
Pet owners are also reminded to bring animals indoors during the cold snap.
No additional updates are currently planned, but residents should continue monitoring local forecasts and weather alerts as conditions evolve.
