Snow Returns to Northern and Eastern Iowa Tuesday Night

Iowans can expect a return of wintry weather late Tuesday into Wednesday as a system moves through the state, bringing the best chance for accumulating snow to northern and northeastern Iowa.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, snowfall is most likely to develop Tuesday evening and continue overnight, with northeastern Iowa forecast to see the highest totals. Areas near Decorah could receive 2 to 4 inches, while parts of north-central Iowa, including Mason City, may see 2 to 3 inches of snow.

Central Iowa is expected to see lighter amounts, generally around an inch or less, while much of southern Iowa is forecast to receive little to no accumulation.

While snowfall amounts will be modest for many locations, officials note that slick roads may develop Tuesday night into early Wednesday, especially in northern and eastern parts of the state.

Forecasters will continue monitoring the system and refining snowfall expectations as it approaches.
