Marian Park Skating Rink Now Open in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE — The Marian Park Skating Rink is officially open, welcoming skaters as of Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., just in time for the holiday season.
The Clear Lake Parks Department said recent weather conditions over the past two weeks allowed staff to prepare the rink, which is now fully operational. Lights are on, the warming house is heated, and the ice is smooth and ready for use. Skaters are reminded to use caution, as ice conditions can be slippery.
Hockey players are welcome at the rink. Nets are available in the warming house, and users are asked to return them after use to prevent freezing and reduce extra work for Parks crews. A trash receptacle is also provided to help keep the area clean.
According to Parks Superintendent Jim Jackson, creating the rink required approximately 21 hours of work, thousands of gallons of water applied in light layers, and — as he noted — at least three gallons of hot coffee to keep staff energized.
Looking ahead, the Parks Department will continue to monitor weather conditions. With temperatures expected to approach 40 degrees later this week, the rink may be temporarily closed to preserve the ice base. Updates will be shared as needed.
The Clear Lake Parks Department says it is proud to offer quality recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors throughout the winter season.
For parks-related questions or concerns, residents may contact the Parks Department directly.
“Merry Christmas and best wishes to all — enjoy the ice,” Jackson said.
