Heat Returns to Iowa This Weekend

Iowa will see a noticeable warm-up as the week progresses, with the hottest conditions expected this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, temperatures will gradually climb through Friday and peak on Saturday. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to low 90s across much of the state, with maximum heat indices in the low to mid-90s.
While the heat will be more intense than last weekend, forecasters note that humidity levels won’t be as high due to lower dewpoints, making conditions somewhat more tolerable despite the hot readings.
Cities such as Des Moines, Ames, and Marshalltown are expected to see some of the highest values, with Saturday heat indices ranging from 97° to near 99°. Even areas further north like Fort Dodge and Waterloo will climb into the mid-90s for heat index values.
The hotter-than-normal stretch will continue into Sunday before easing slightly by early next week.
